The Poet of the Valley

Dean Parkin will be our community poet for the Managing a Masterpiece arts programme

We are very pleased to be working with Dean Parkin, a local lad born in Suffolk and well known in the area.  Dean is also the 2012 poet-in-residence at the Beccles Festival, host of the Short Cuts Cabaret and for three years was poet-in-residence on the Afternoon Show on BBC Radio Norfolk (2007-10).  His one man show 'Dean's Dad's Ducks', premiered at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Festival in August 2010 (supported by an Escalator Live Literature and an Arts Council Award).  He has run workshops in prisons, schools, on a NATO base in Germany and he is a regular tutor on schools courses for the Arvon Foundation.

For the “Managing a Masterpiece” programme, Dean will be:

 

  • Producing a body of new poems inspired by the landscape, original paintings and literature of the area.  A special book including this material will be printed to leave a permanent legacy of the Managing A Masterpiece project.  Aongside the poems will be the images that inspired them and the winning entries of the poetry competition.

 

  

  • Working with schools in November.

  

  • Attending public events in January to April 2013 to read from the new poems.
